My hope is that the ESF (Evolutionary Systems Framework), or something similar, will allow researchers to navigate the extraordinary diversity and complexity of our world without having to know everything about it, thereby helping us avoid getting lost or getting stuck in our own respective fields of expertise. It will give us a sense of understanding wherever and whatever we look into, not because we know all about the subject, but because we can understand the general nature of the phenomena involved.

This freedom and ability to understand the Universe in all its manifestations could give us not only an individual sense of completeness but also a real and meaningful sense of shared knowledge that spreads and reinforces itself across disciplines, fulfilling the promise envisioned by John H. Holland. [Excerpt from the Framing the Universe’s Epilogue.]
